BBC Coburg loses at FC Bayern Munich’s reserve side

Munich, 11-10-2018

A decimated BBC COBURG was a match for the reserve side of FC Bayern Munch for a long time. However, the home side capitalized more and more on its superiority in the rebounding department at the end and won deservedly, albeit by the somewhat too high a margin of 84:67 (30:28).

The BBC’s Head Coach Ulf Schabacker had to improvise quite a bit in Munich, since Christopher Wolf – who has been a vital player in the past weeks – was missing through injury. In addition, Jason Penn and Eividas Molosciakas were ruled out completely and Matthias Fichtner was only available to a limited extent after his ligament injury.

In the opening period, it seemed as if the two sides wanted to demonstrate which of them had the greater shortcomings in offense, as they drained a combined total of just nine of their 34 attempts from the floor. Two buckets from downtown by Chase Adams and a lay-up by Yasin Turan after a steal tied the scores at 10:10 at the end of the first period in the Audi Dome.

The second quarter began well for the BBC, as Kevin Franceschi drained a jump short and Walde scored after an offensive rebound to put the visitors 10:14 in front. However, the German champions’ reserve team then produced a 9:2 spurt. Yet the BBC did not let its opponents pull away, with the result that it only trailed by the wafer-thin margin of 30:28 at half-time.

Back on court, both teams sharply improved their shooting percentage as the players suddenly started scoring from all positions in the third period. Bayern’s Nelson Weidemann now stepped into top gear: The German U20 international bagged 16 of his total haul of 20 points in this spell. Kevin Franceschi kept BBC COBURG in the game. The Frenchman, who managed little before the break, drained four buckets from beyond the arc within a short space of time to keep the lead within bounds after 30 minutes (61:54).

Coburg’s strength waned in the final period and the home side, led by former international Demond Greene, exploited its size advantage more and more. Munich snapped up a total of 57 rebounds – 19 more than the BBC. 26 offensive rebounds repeatedly enabled the home side to capitalize on second chances to score in the final phase of the game, with the result that it sealed victory by a margin of 84:67 that was a little wider than deserved.
