BBL: Ineffective Bamberg Offense Falls in Oldenburg

Even if it wasn’t pretty to watch, it was exciting. However, in the end, there was no happy ending for the Bamberg Baskets in their away game against the EWE Baskets Oldenburg. In the sold-out EWE Arena with 6,200 spectators, Oldenburg won on Friday evening with 67:59 (35:28). On Bamberg’s side, the shooting percentages were particularly weak. While they missed 10 out of 26 free throw attempts, only 3 out of 18 three-point shots found their target.
Bamberg started nervously, making mistakes and turnovers. After trailing 8:3, a strong 11:0 run brought them the lead (8:14), but subsequently, the Gavel team missed numerous free throws and showed a weak shooting percentage. Oldenburg went into the break with a 35:28 lead. In the third quarter, Bamberg seemed to gain momentum after trailing by ten points (42:32) and tied the game (44:44). However, the Gavel team remained uninspired offensively and ineffective in crucial moments. With eight points in a row, Ronaldo Segu brought his team back to 62:56 with 88 seconds left, but Seth Hinrichs secured the home win for Oldenburg with four converted free throws. Top scorer Ronaldo Segu was the only player on Bamberg’s side who could consistently apply pressure. Especially Kyle Lofton (5 points) and Ibrahim Watson (4 points) fell short of expectations, each hitting only one shot out of six attempts.
On Thursday, October 31, 2024, the Bamberg Baskets will have home court advantage in the ENBL against Keila Coolbet from Estonia in the BROSE ARENA.
