Brose Bamberg trounces Göttingen

There was no reason for the team of Head Coach Andrea Trinchieri to underestimate the club from Lower Saxony. After losing its first five games of the season, Göttingen then won three in a row and also defeated Würzburg in its last encounter. The consistency with which Bamberg kept the opposing side in check for the entire 40 minutes was impressive. Although Trinchieri was without his strong defenders Elias Harris and Daniel Hackett through injury, the reigning champions turned in a convincing display of tight and tough defending that made Göttingen struggle for every single shot. His players also chalked up a high shooting percentage. Lucca Staiger drained two buckets from beyond the arc and Bryce Taylor, Maodo Lo and Malik Müller one each to help put their side 27:15 in front after the first period. The lead grew thanks to two threes by Aleksej Nikolic and German international Maodo Lo. Andrea Trinchieri was able to give old hands such as Bryce Taylor, Ricky Hickman and Augustine Rubit a rest on the bench for the big Euroleague game against champions Fenerbahçe Istanbul on Friday. Lucca Staiger put Bamberg ahead by 20 points with his third bucket from downtown in the encounter, a lead that was stretched to 25 points by the break.

Dorell Wright, who unusually for him missed four shots from the field in the first half, added seven quick points with two lay-ups and a three to increase the margin to 62:30. Göttingen failed to put up any resistance, as the home side maintained too high a level of intensity in defense. Leon Radosevic and Luca Mitrovic capitalized on a four-minute barren spell for the visitors to help produce a run of 11 points without reply for the champions (80:40). In the final period, Coach Trinchieri put his trust in his young center Eddy Edigin, who proceeded to score his first bucket in the German league. Malik Müller also justified his time on court with three threes and brought up the 100 points with a great lay-up. Bamberg finally ran out commanding winners by 100:61.
