Federal Minister Dorothee Bär visits Brose

Federal Minister Dorothee Bär visited the Brose headquarters in Coburg yesterday to learn about the current status of the family-owned company’s innovation projects. The focus was on the development of an industrial platform for small satellites as well as other technology programs with which Brose is strengthening its product portfolio and driving its transformation forward.

Since fall 2025, Brose – together with the Fraunhofer Institute EMI, Fraunhofer ISC, and the Berlin Space Consortium (BSC) – has been accelerating the development and industrialization of small satellites in the 50 to 500 kilogram range. This collaboration combines the automotive supplier’s many years of experience in developing and industrializing mechatronic systems with leading research expertise. The goal is to establish a center of excellence for production and testing capacities to enable efficient industrial manufacturing of modular solutions for satellites.

Federal Minister Dorothee Bär praised the synergy between industrial experience and technological excellence: Brose demonstrates how industrial strength and innovative power can work together to advance Germany in the new space sector. The planned satellite production in Würzburg is an important signal for our technological sovereignty. The government will carefully consider how we can support this initiative with suitable framework conditions.

In addition to the satellite project, Brose also presented other strategic development initiatives to the Minister. These include, for example, applications for humanoid robots, charging technology, and acoustic systems for electric vehicles. We are working intensely to modernize our technology portfolio and open up new fields on our own initiative. However, we cannot achieve this alone. In order to keep up this pace, we urgently need concrete investment support and prompt decisions from the public sector, emphasized CEO Stefan Krug.

The Chairman of the Administrative Board, Maximilian Stoschek, also emphasized the importance of political support: We are deliberately investing in future technologies that align with our core DNA–system development expertise, mechatronics, and series production quality. We are making significant upfront investments to ensure the sustainable further development of our corporate group. In light of intense global competitive pressure, we need an environment that empowers companies rather than holds them back. Germany must become faster, more reliable, and more competitive in this regard.

During the dialogue with the Minister, the discussion focused not only on technological milestones but also on Germany’s role as a business location. The Brose representatives made it clear that innovation initiatives in key areas – such as satellite technology, electrification, or digitalized production processes – can only be sustainably successful with clear political frameworks, straightforward funding, and internationally compatible regulations.
