Brose Motorsport: Victory in Maremma

Follonica, 10-24-2021

For the third time after 2012 and 2020, the Brose Motorsport team of Michael Stoschek (Ahorn) and Dieter Hawranke (Kassel) competed in the Maremma Rally, this time with a 1973 Porsche Carrera 2.8 RSR. The racing car has 315 hp and weighs about 1,000 kg.

The sun was shining during the special stages and on the day of the event. Only during the shakedown did it rain briefly. Nine special stages with 61 kilometers had to be driven by the 19 starters of the historic rally. After that 78 starters followed in the modern rally.

At the start of the first special stage, the Brose team immediately incurred a 10-second time penalty. Michael Stoschek had misinterpreted the timekeeper's hand signal and thus triggered a false start. In this special stage, the team only finished 13th and thus started to catch up in the remaining stages.

The Porsche team improved from stage to stage, mainly thanks to a harder rubber compound on the front axle, and was able to extend its lead in the group of vehicles built between 1970 and 1975, and thus the oldest vehicles in the starting field. The only cars ahead of them were those built between 1989 and 1991, with much more modern and better technology, especially four-wheel-drive turbo cars.

With the group victory and a 5th place overall Stoschek/Hawranke could start their journey home highly satisfied.
