Dominik Dinkel forced to retire from the Stemweder Berg Rally

Lübbecke, 06-16-2018

Christian Riedemann and Michael Wenzel celebrated their first victory of the season in their Skoda Fabia R5 at the ADAC Stemweder Berg Rally, the fourth race in the German Rally Championship (DRM). The duo benefited from the fact that the championship leaders Dominik Dinkel and Christina Fürst from Rossach/Tiefenbach were forced to withdraw on the final trial. After 14 trials over a distance of 144 kilometers, Riedemann/Wenzel finished 43.5 seconds ahead of second-placed Marijan Griebel/Alexander Rath in a Romo-Peugeot 208 T16. The final place on the rostrum was taken by Roman Schwedt/Christoph Gerlich in a Romo-Peugeot 207 S2000. Despite not finishing the rally, Dominik Dinkel/Christina Fürst are on 72 points and defended their lead at the DRM’s halfway stage ahead of Christian Riedemann/Michael Wenzel and Marijan Griebel/Alexander Rath. n-tv will show the best scenes from the ADAC Stemweder Berg Rally at 9:30 a.m. this Saturday.

Dinkel’s Brose Motorsport team got off to a fairly restrained start. The team from Bavaria captured third place overall on the Saturday with four third-fastest times. “For some reason, I don’t like the trials on the first day with their numerous forks. I hope we do a better job tomorrow,” stated Dinkel after finishing the first stage. The DRM leader struck back on Saturday morning with four out of four possible best times and again demonstrated his ability on asphalt. He first passed Marijan Griebel and then seized the overall lead after the eighth trial: “Everything’s going according to plan for us now and I hope that stays that way to the finish,” said the Bavarian pilot at the afternoon service break. He maintained a 4.3 second lead ahead of Riedemann until the final trial. A mistake on the last trial then sent the car into a spin and it ended up in a ditch. As a result, Riedemann snatched the lead and drove to victory.
