Double triumph followed by double setback

Game over at Wimbledon: Coburg tennis player Kevin Krawietz failed in both the men's and mixed doubles categories at yesterday's prestigious grass court classic.
The man from Witzmannsberg and his doubles partner Tim Pütz lost to the number one seeded duo Marcel Granollers from Spain and Horacio Zeballos from Argentina in two sets with 4:6 and 6:7 (3:7). They therefore missed out on a place in the semi-finals and, as in the previous year, were defeated by the world number two.
The break opportunities were a decisive factor in the match. While Granollers and Zeballos were able to capitalize on one of their two break chances, Pütz and Krawietz were unsuccessful on their four opportunities. Despite the defeat, the German Olympic doubles team can still enjoy 360 world ranking points, which they will receive by reaching the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam tournament.
Kevin Krawietz was also unsuccessful in the second match of the day. Together with his team partner Alexandra Panova, he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Jamie Murray (Great Britain) and Taylor Townsend (USA). After the German-Russian duo had won the first set, they lost the second set and the match tie-break (7:6, 1:6, 5:10).
The next ATP tournament for Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz starts next Monday. The venue is Hamburg.
