German Basketball League: Bamberg Baskets record second win under Head Coach Woltmann

Bamberg, 03-02-2024

Bamberg Baskets won its second German league game in a row under interim Head Coach Arne Woltmann. After stepping up the intensity in defense from midway through the second quarter, Bamberg kept basement dwellers Tigers Tübingen under control and ran out unchallenged 97:76 home winners.

In the first leg shortly before Christmas, Bamberg Baskets had underestimated the relegation-threatened Tigers Tübingen and lost unnecessarily 92:99. Woltmann's players were determined to avoid that in the second leg so as not to drop even further down the table. Yet Bamberg had problems with the Swabians, who played briskly and quickly, in the first 15 minutes. It was not until 24:28 after just over a quarter of an hour that Bamberg woke up, driven in particular by the strong performance of Kevin Wohlrath with 12 points and four rebounds, and produced a 7:0 run to lead 45:39 at half-time. Bamberg put together a strong defensive package in the third quarter to give itself confidence in offense: Center Filip contributed 14 of his 19 points after the break and was the outstanding man on court alongside top scorer Zach Copeland with 24 points. Bamberg pulled away by as much as 19 points in the third period to win by 74:55 and seal a clear victory.

Bamberg Baskets' Head Coach Arne Woltmann commented: "We conceded too many points in the first period and also allowed Tübingen to make too many open threes. When we defended those shots better, Tübingen's shooting percentage dropped and our confidence grew. We also only conceded two turnovers after the break."

Bamberg Baskets face MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg on Saturday, March 9, 2024 and lost the first leg 90:102. Tip-Off is at 8 p.m.
