HC Erlangen loses to SC Magdeburg

Magdeburg, 11-16-2017

HC Erlangen lost its game on the road against SC Magdeburg by 28:22. The team had resolved to play with courage and resolve, to cause problems for SC Magdeburg’s backcourt and, building on a stable defense, to score easy goals. The team of Head Coach Aðalsteinn Eyjólfsson put those objectives into practice perfectly in the first 20 minutes. A very strong Katsigiannis behind an extremely offensive defense enabled HC Erlangen to pull four goals ahead by the 18th minute. SC Magdeburg got back into the game with a power-packed performance. The former Champions League winners turned the game in its favor before the break and went in at half-time leading by 13:11.

The SCM really got into its stride after the break. HC Erlangen, for whom Christoph Steinert with seven goals was especially impressive, tried all in its might to avert the impending defeat. Ultimately, it was once again simple mistakes and a commanding performance by the home side toward the end that sealed HC Erlangen’s loss.

Aðalsteinn Eyjólfsson commented: “We did very many things very well today. We have to keep on working hard and take fresh heart from these things.”
