Zandvoort
Partially successful weekend of racing for Christian Engelhart in Zandvoort
Ezequiel Perez Companc and Marco Mapelli in a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 with the start number 19 chalked up a start-to-finish win in the fifth race of the season in the ADAC GT Masters. Companc managed to defend pole position in the first half of the race. Mapelli then drove to victory, crossing the line with a lead of 0.7 seconds.
Christian Engelhart and Rolf Ineichen also celebrated a win: The duo finished first in the Pirelli Trophy rankings. In the Saturday race, they fought its way up from 13th to ninth in their car with the start number 82. The triumph in the first race was followed by a cold shower in the second. Engelhart managed to make a fantastic start and move up from 11th to eighth. However, an unfortunate contact with an Audi resulted in the Lamborghini’s suspension breaking and damage to its left rear tire – forcing Engelhart and Ineichen to withdraw.
Christian Engelhart: “We had hoped for a positive weekend, but our expectations were dashed. The team prepared the car extremely well. That meant we had a very good package and produced good pace. Rolf qualified in 13th and did a very good job. He moved up into tenth in the first race. We were pretty satisfied about that. The track conditions were different in Q2 and unfortunately we weren’t able to turn in the same performance as the day before. I’m still satisfied, since our Lamborghini was the best in the field in Q2. I got off to a good start and after just three corners I’d climbed from 11th to eighth. Unfortunately, I was hit by an Audi – I couldn’t do anything to avoid contact.”
