s.Oliver Würzburg presses ahead with planning its squad
While the players are relaxing on their summer vacation, the clubs are working overtime to plan their teams for next season. s.Oliver Würzburg has already made great progress in that and has now announced its fifth new signing. In addition to Johannes Richter (Rockets) and Skyler Bowlin (Science City Jena) among others, Mitch Creek is also moving to Lower Franconia.
In the final spurt of this season, he successfully helped BG Göttingen avoid relegation. The 26-year-old Australian international has signed a contract for the 2018/2019 season with s.Oliver Würzburg.
“Australian basketball is characterized by team spirit, toughness and imaginative zest – and I like that. Mitch Creek embodies those qualities in a special way and so he fits very well with us. You saw from his games for Göttingen that he raised the team to another level,” said Head Coach Denis Wucherer.
At the end of March 2018, he captained Adelaide 36ers again in the Grand Final of the Australian championship, which Melbourne United won in the fifth and deciding game. Creek moved to BG Göttingen a few days later and played in the last seven games of the regular season in the easyCredit German Basketball League. He averaged almost 12 points and 2.7 rebounds in his around 21 minutes on court per game for the Violets. The statistics for his four first games up to when Göttingen secured its spot in the first division are more insightful: 17.3 points and 4 rebounds in just over 25 minutes.
At the end of the month, Creek will play for Australia in the World Cup qualifiers against the Philippines and Japan. After that, he intends – like last year – to play in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. If he is signed by an NBA club, he has the chance to withdraw from his contract with s.Oliver Würzburg until shortly after the Summer League.
Florian Koch will also line up for s.Oliver Würzburg in the next two seasons. The likewise 26-year-old German wing is backed by experience from almost 250 German League and Eurocup games for Telekom Baskets Bonn and MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg. He reached the semi-final of the FIBA Europe Cup with Bonn last year and the Final Four of the Basketball Champions League and the semi-final of the German championship with Ludwigsburg this season.
The next new signing with a German passport is point guard Brad Loesing. He is moving to Upper Franconia from EWE Baskets Oldenburg and has been given a two-year contract with s.Oliver Würzburg. s.Oliver Würzburg has thus already laid a good foundation for a successful 2018/2019 season.
