Tiago Monteiro may have virtually participated in the legendary 500 miles of Indianapolis, but the adrenaline and excitement were extremely real! The Portuguese driver was so caught up in the game, he lived the event with the same intensity of a real race. The event was organized by Legends Trophy, a virtual competition promoted by The Race, and was a great satisfaction for Tiago.

Indianapolis has to be marked with a cross for Tiago, who is the only Portuguese driver to date to climb an F1 podium on the famous American speedway. Once again, The Brickyard smiled on Tiago, who obtained a fantastic 4th place finish in the first race and a brilliant podium in the second, despite starting from 19th on the inverted starting grid.

Many renowned drivers, and several winners of the Indianapolis 500-mile race, participated in the event, including Emerson Fittipaldi, Fernando Alonso, Tony Kanaan, Gil de Ferran, Helio Castroneves, Dario Franchitti, Andy Priaulx, Emanuele Pirro, Jan Magnussen, Jenson Button, Juan Pablo Montoya, Mario Andretti, Max Papis, Mika Salo, Petter Solberg, Tom Coronel.

On a grid with all those motor sport legends present, it was with Fernando Alonso that Tiago Monteiro disputed victory until the final meters of the second race, after the podium in the first round escaped him by a few fractions of a second. Tiago's success at Indianapolis is all the more pleasant as he only made his debut in racing simulators two short months ago.

“It was fantastic! Running on an oval is an incredible sensation, much closer to reality and where strategy is the key to success. It was two incredible races and it took a lot of energy and training during the week to reach the required level, but in the end, it paid off and I am very happy with the result! Although virtual, this experience was fantastic and it is once again an honour to be part of a starting grid with such legendary and experienced drivers. I would also like to thank everyone who supported me during the race. Onto the next!” said Tiago.
