Davis Cup Finals: Germany fails in the semifinals

Bologna, 11-22-2025

The German Davis Cup team finished a strong week at the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna by advancing to the semifinals. In the 250th Davis Cup match in German team history, the team showed great commitment and team spirit, but ultimately lost to Spain by a narrow margin of 1:2.

In the first singles match, Jan-Lennard Struff confirmed his good form and kept the match against Pablo Carreño Busta open for a long time. Despite some strong phases, he ultimately had to admit defeat to the Spaniard 4-6, 6-7.

Alexander Zverev then leveled the score. In a close and focused match, he defeated Jaume Munar 7-6, 7-6 to bring Germany back into contention.

As so often, the decision was made in the doubles: Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz faced the Spanish duo Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez. After a hard-fought and eventful match, the Germans were defeated 2-6, 6-3, 3-6. The semifinal match thus ended 2-1 in favor of Spain. Team captain Michael Kohlmann said after the match: "We are, of course, very disappointed with the outcome of the match. We had hoped for more this year, but this format always makes for very close matches and does not forgive mistakes. Today was another close match that could have gone either way. In the end, Spain came out on top. We will be back to fight again in the Davis Cup next year."
