Basketball: BBC Coburg celebrates important away win

BBC Coburg was able to break its recent losing streak and get back into the fight for a playoff spot with a 99:90 away win at Fellbach Flashers. The BBC laid the foundation for its success in the 3rd quarter in particular. The Coburg team won the period by 34:24 and did not relinquish the lead until the end. Six Coburg players scored in double figures, including top scorers Gabriel Kuku and Adrian Petkovic with 17 points each. They were joined by captain Sven Lorber with 16, Danas Kazakevicius and Kolten Mortensen with 14 and Olamide Pedersen with 11 points.

Head Coach Patrick Seidel summed up the away win: "I was very satisfied with our performance in the offence in many moments. We also managed to rebound better than in the last game because we were simply more active. We had our problems against Fellbach's unusual press, where you lose the ball once or twice, but in the end we were smart, didn't let ourselves get rattled and then swung the game home. I really liked our ball movement in particular. We had 26 assists, which is a very, very good number, and our shooting percentage was also very good in the second half. Overall, I'm satisfied with our performance and we'll continue to work on the two or three things we didn't do so well today."

After a rather sparse first half in the offence on both sides, the BBC nevertheless went into the break with a six-point lead. Coburg then showed a different face in attack after the half-time break. The visitors pulled away bit by bit with some beautifully carved-out shots, as the odds were now right both outside and especially inside the three-point line. As a result, Coburg's lead was 16 points after 30 minutes. The Flashers fought their way back to within six points in the final quarter, but the Coburg team did not allow them to get within striking distance and so deserved its second away win of the season.

BBC Coburg now faces its last home game of the year next Saturday. The HUK-Coburg arena will host the youngsters of FC Bayern Basketball. Tip-off is at 7 pm.
