Basketball: Bulic-Gala is not enough BBC Coburg to the victory
In the last minute, BBC Coburg gave away the victory on Sunday afternoon. Against the Seeburg College Wizards they lost narrowly with 80:81, after they had led clearly for a long time. With a lack of substitutes, the Coburg team suffered another home defeat in the BARMER 2nd Basketball Bundesliga ProB. However, the home side did not lack opportunities to decide the game in their favor. BBC center Leon Bulic was in top form, scoring 32 points and grabbing 13 rebounds to become the best scorer and most effective player in the match.
The guests got off to the better start. In the post, they repeatedly put Moritz Bär in good scene. The Karlsruhe center later finished the game with a perfect throwing exploitation, all five field attempts and likewise all five free throws went in. After four minutes, Baden led 8:4. For Coburg, Bulic got going and sank his first three-pointer, bringing BBC to within one point. The first quarter was even, the lead changed a few times, and the Wizards took a slim 21:20 advantage into the second.
Now it was the home side that had the momentum on their side. After Leon Bulic interrupted a Karlsruhe attack with a steal, Milan Suput put the Vestädter in the lead 24:21. However, Coburg did not manage to pull away in this phase despite a few stops. On the offensive end, the Vestädter gave away the ball under the basket a few times. As in the previous week, some well played threes did not fall either. Consequently, the Wizards led 47:42 at the break.
Also in the second half, the BBC did not have the throwing luck on its side at first. Christian Rodriguez did better for Karlsruhe and scored from the parking lot to make it 57:50 from Baden's point of view. But Leon Bulic had the right answer and also hit a three-pointer. The Coburg center ran hot and evened the score with a dunk to 57:57. Because Bulic then scored again from distance, the hosts took a 62:59 lead into the final period.
After the momentum continued to be on the side of the BBC, the Vestädter increased nicely by an alley-oop from Worthy to Lorber to 66:59. The captain then forced guest coach Rouven Roessler with another triple to a timeout. At this point, Coburg led by eleven points. However, the team again failed to close the bag.
Another loss of the ball by the BBC caused Milan Suput to stop the counterattack without permission, which is why the game was over for him after his fifth foul. Christoph Rupp converted the subsequent free throws for the guests. And again it was a crotch error that gave the Wizards possession of the ball. Now Rodriguez sank his free throws. Rupp hit the game-deciding three-pointer five seconds before the end to make it 80:81, Coburg got possession again, but again missed the opportunity to respond.
