BBC Coburg goes empty-handed at Skyliners Juniors
Shortly before the hot phase of the season in the BARMER 2. Basketball Bundesliga ProB is rung in, the BBC Coburg takes the next defeat. In Frankfurt, the Vestädter came away empty-handed on Saturday evening, losing clearly to the Skyliners Juniors with 79:64.
At the beginning, Coburg missed two three-pointers and the Frankfurt team also failed to find a finish at first. Only when Alvin Onyia stepped to the free throw line for the hosts, the first point was scored. On the other side, Coburg then hit its first three-pointer through Petkovic. The guests took the lead for the first time after a steal and subsequent coast-to-coast run by Suput. The opening period remained close before Nolan Adekunle converted two threes in a row for the home side.
At 11:17 from Coburg's point of view, Patrick Seidel called his boys for a timeout for the first time. Leonhardt and Völler acted strongly on the offensive board for Frankfurt, and the Hessians also achieved impressive shooting percentages in the first quarter. Jannis Sonnefeld had the right answer ready and put the BBC back in the lead with his second three-pointer within a few seconds. The Vestädter took a narrow 22:20 lead from the first period.
Once again, it was Jordan Samare who opened the second quarter with points, this time with a fastbreak on a pass from Skyliners point guard Felix Hecker. Samare thus laid the foundation for a 9:1 run with which Frankfurt took the Upper Franconians by surprise within two minutes.
After a good 14 minutes, it was then BBC center Leon Bulic who tanked his way through the zone and forced a three-point play. With that, he cut the Coburg deficit to 30:34, but because the home side stayed strong on their long-range shots, they continued to maintain the lead. In the first half, the Skyliners Juniors hit six threes at a rate of 46 percent. At halftime, the hosts still led by a razor-thin 41:39.
The BBC continued to frequently try to succeed with three-pointers on the offensive. However, this calculation no longer worked in the third quarter, which meant that Frankfurt was able to pull away again. Marvin Hecker hit a three-pointer right in the heart of Coburg, and the Hessians led by twelve points.
As has been the case all too often this season, the BBC delivered a desolate third quarter in the Main metropolis. The Skyliners pulled away to 16 points. Before the end of the period, Tyreese Blunt was able to cut the deficit to 61:47. The fact that often also well played out throws did not find the way into the basket, one must credit the Vestädtern.
When Milan Suput took heart again four minutes before the end and converted an energetic steal in return into points, Coburg once again reduced the disadvantage to nine points. Suput impressed on Saturday night with twelve points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals. He was thus the second best performer on the part of the BBC behind Bulic. However, Onyia and Adekunle quickly put things right for Frankfurt and decided the encounter with back-to-back threes.
