Spa Francorchamps

Christian Engelhart: crucial points at the 24 hours of Spa

Spa Francorchamps, 08-01-2021

It was the highlight race of the year for Christian Engelhart: the 24 hours of Spa Francorchamps. Together with his Dinamic Motorsport team, the Porsche driver from Starnberg started at the legendary race in the Ardennes - and with him a total of 58 GT3 race cars.

For Christian, the 73rd edition of the endurance classic was all about scoring important points for the title in the Endurance Cup of the GT World Challenge Europe.

Intensive work on the race car was necessary for the preparations and this lasted until the beginning of the race weekend. "This year the preparations were very difficult and costly for us because our car was so badly damaged at the last race in Misano. We had to completely rebuild it and were busy during the training sessions getting the “fine tuning” right for this great race. With a fourth place in free practice, things also looked very good for us. Unfortunately, we were unable to repeat this result in qualifying and placed 23rd on the grid and thus in the middle of the pack of 58 starters!"

Christian was then able to demonstrate the strong performance with his teammates on the track during the race, even though the Dinamic Motorsport trio was initially slowed down by a drive through penalty. Subsequently, all three drove a strong race and the team made the right strategic decisions.

By the time the points were awarded at the halfway point of the race, the trio had already worked their way up to sixth position, making them the best Porsche at the time of the 12-hour classification. As a reward, the team was able to pick up four important points for the overall standings.

There was then a bitter setback in the second half of the race when a technical defect in the electronics stopped the car after 341 laps and ended the race prematurely.

The next race after the summer break will probably take place at the Nürburgring, where Christian won the 6-hour race last year with Dinamic Motorsport. This is exactly what he wants to build on together with his team.
