Bitter semifinal exit for Krawietz and Pütz

On Tuesday, German tennis players Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz faced the British duo Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash at the National Bank Open in Toronto. In an intense semifinal match, the Germans were defeated 3–6, 6–7 (2–7). The match lasted 1 hour and 17 minutes and was marked by a strong performance from the British team, especially in their serving and in crucial moments.
Glasspool and Cash dominated with a total of 13 aces and an impressive 92% win rate on points after their first serve. In contrast, Krawietz and Pütz were unable to convert any of their six break chances, which proved to be decisive. The British pair also showed great composure in the second set tiebreak, securing the win with a 7–2 score.
For Krawietz and Pütz, it was a missed opportunity to reach a Masters 1000 final together for the first time. Despite eleven joint final appearances in other tournament categories—four of which they won, most recently in Halle in June 2025—this level of success at the highest tier remains elusive for now. Looking ahead, the German duo continues to be a solid presence among the world’s top doubles teams. Their experience and consistency make them serious contenders for upcoming tournaments, especially the US Open, which begins at the end of August. To succeed there, improving their return game and capitalizing on break chances will be crucial.
