No points for the Lamborghini works driver in Misano, Italy. However, for Christian Engelhart and his GRT Grasser Racing Team teammate Georgi Donchev, this became secondary after last weekend. During Sunday’s race, Christian’s teammate was involved in a serious crash, which he fortunately walked away from uninjured.

“It was an accident of a severity I have neither seen nor, thankfully, experienced in my career so far. The most important thing is that Georgi came out of the crash unharmed. The impact alone at over 200 km/h was intense. Seeing the car catch fire made it an extremely difficult moment,” Christian summarized the race incident following contact with another competitor.

“After the shock, our focus now is to analyze everything and, of course, to see what options we have to repair the car and get back on track as quickly as possible. Georgi and I are true racers, so the question isn’t if we’ll return, but when.”

The background: the next GT World Challenge races are already scheduled for the coming week. Due to the crash and the resulting fire damage in the engine and cockpit areas, the duo’s Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2 cannot be fully repaired in time.

“We’re working flat out with everyone involved to find a sensible solution. Logistics and the availability of all parts play a major role here, as does the condition of the chassis,” said Christian. As things stand, the Grasser duo’s participation in the penultimate Sprint Cup event of the season is uncertain.

“Of course, it wouldn’t be ideal if we couldn’t compete, as we’re fighting for championship points. But we have to deal with the situation and see what’s possible. At the same time, we’re already looking ahead to the Sprint Finale in Valencia from September 19 to 21.”
