After their impressive title win at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle just under two weeks ago, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz arrived at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships full of confidence. Their triumph on the grass courts in Halle was seen as a strong indicator of their form—especially with a view toward the prestigious Grand Slam tournament in London.

In the first round at Wimbledon, the German duo confirmed their strong form with a commanding 6–3, 6–4 victory over Belgian Sander Gillé and seasoned Indian player Rohan Bopanna. Krawietz and Pütz also left no doubt in the second round, defeating Matthew Romios (AUS) and Ryan Seggerman (USA) 6–3, 7–6. Particularly in the tiebreak of the second set, they demonstrated composure and tactical maturity—qualities that have made them one of the most dangerous doubles teams on the tour in recent months.

All the more surprising, then, was their exit in the round of 16 on July 6 against the duo of Rinky Hijikata (AUS) and David Pel (NED). In a match that didn’t go the Germans’ way from the start, Krawietz and Pütz lost 2–6, 4–6. They never really found their rhythm, appeared unusually error-prone, and struggled to counter their opponents’ aggressive play. Particularly noticeable was their lack of power on serve and their low success rate at the net—both usually strengths of the well-coordinated pair.

Given their recent performances and the tournament win in Halle, the early exit at Wimbledon is undoubtedly a disappointment. Nevertheless, the German duo remains a fixture at the top of the world rankings and will have the chance to bounce back and regain confidence at their next tournament, the Generali Open in Kitzbühel.
