Basketball: Third loss in a row BBC Coburg in crisis

Coburg, 03-23-2024

The Coburg basketball team loses at home to the Black Forest Panthers Schwenningen. After the 93:98 defeat, Head Coach Patrick Seidel had strong words for his team.

In its third game in a week, BBC Coburg suffered its third defeat against the Black Forest Panthers from Schwenningen, who are threatened by relegation. The club from Coburg lost 93:98 in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga Pro B South in front of more than 600 spectators in the Huk Arena at home and so still has to fear for a place in the final round. The BBC's best scorer was once again point guard Adrian Petkovic with 26 points.

For Coburg's Head Coach Patrick Seidel, the reason for the three defeats in a row is obvious: "Our defensive performance is simply not good enough at the moment, neither our commitment nor our tactical and technical execution. We'll definitely have to come up with something, because we have to get our feet on the ground defensively now. You can't win games without intensity and commitment and we simply have to move the ball better up front. We're falling into a hole at the moment. It's obviously been a tough week, but what we're delivering right now is not the level we've built up over the last few months and have earned. It's simply not the level we should be playing at right now."

The BBC got off to a good start to the game. The threes fell early on. Adrian Petkovic in particular drained four in the first period alone. However, the Panthers were unimpressed by Coburg's good display in offense in the first quarter and put their stamp on the game from the second period on. From then on, the visitors found it difficult to create good shots in offense and went into the locker room trailing by ten points after a wild three by Kjartansson.

The opening spell after half-time belonged to the BBC again. The speech by Head Coach Patrick Seidel in the break seemed to have borne fruit. Coburg came out of the locker room energetically and with the necessary concentration and was quickly back to within two points of the Panthers. However, Coburg's play broke down again towards the end of the quarter and Schwenningen pulled away thanks to its composed play in offense. The visitors' lead had grown to 20 points (59:79) with nine minutes remaining, but the BBC did not put its head in the sand and switched to a zone in defense to turn the game around. Coburg staged another comeback, but this time without success. Although the club from Westphalia reduced the deficit to four points, the comeback simply came too late.

BBC Coburg faces BG Hessing Leitershofen on the road next Saturday, March 30, 2024. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
